Midtown Improvement District and its Public Safety and Community Standards Committee have established a special initiative with The Bridge Homeless Recovery Center of North Texas to create a designated intake center to aid individuals experiencing homelessness in the Midtown Improvement District and East Dallas.
More than 5,000 individuals are experiencing homelessness in Dallas County in 2021. Since 2018, there has been a 128% increase individuals experiencing homelessness in East Dallas, with the majority increase in Midtown District zip codes 75231 and 75243. Resilience, the planned and forthcoming intake center to care for the homeless in Midtown and East Dallas, has been strategically designated as a priority, hyper-local counseling center for the Midtown Improvement District and the five-mile radius specified service area. A dedicated expert staff affiliated with The Bridge will work with homeless individuals in crisis who come to the intake center for guidance and assistance, with the ultimate goal of facilitating the individuals’ transfer for full treatment and care at The Bridge Homeless Recovery Center in Downtown Dallas.
The Midtown Improvement District, working with The Bridge, has been awarded a grant of $150,000 from the Moody Foundation to provide for costs to launch the intake center. A fundraising program is underway for Resilience to provide for operations.
The Midtown District and The Bridge are also collaborating with the City of Dallas Office of Homeless Solutions, as well as the City of Dallas Community Courts system, and additional Dallas County, State of Texas and Federal resources, to interface and connect on service to individuals experiencing homelessness.
